The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office conducted enhanced patrols immediately before and after the Super Bowl on Feb. 4.  Deputies contacted 13 subjects during the enhanced patrols, issued five citations and gave seven verbal warnings for traffic violations.   Two of the persons contacted were also arrested for DUII.

At about 4 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy contacted Jacob Allen Hedderig, 23, of Portland. Hedderig’s vehicle was disabled along Interstate 82 near mile post 8.5 south of Umatilla.  Hedderig admitted he had been the driver of the vehicle, and that he’d consumed alcohol and marijuana prior to his vehicle being disabled. The investigation showed Hedderig was still impaired at the time of contact with the deputy, and Hedderig was ultimately arrested for DUII. His BAC was .13%.

At about 7:40 p.m., a vehicle was observed running a stop sign on Highway 339 and Sunnyside Road near Milton‐Freewater. The driver was identified as Ivan Olvera, 27, of Milton‐Freewater. During the stop, Olvera admitted he’d used marijuana while driving and Olvera exhibited signs of marijuana impairment. Olvera was charged with DUII.
Olvera’s BAC was .00%. A drug recognition expert was not available to evaluate Olvera; however, a urine sample was collected from Olivera for further analysis.

These events are funded through a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association. The next DUII/HVE event is scheduled for St. Patrick’s Day on March 17.

The sheriff’s office encourages citizens to report suspected drunk drivers by calling 541‐966‐3650 or 911 if it appears to be an emergency.
