Arts Council Unveils Season's Lineup

Toot the horns and sound the trumpets – Desert Arts Council announces its 31st season lineup of spectacular sounds, visual delights, musical wonders, holiday humor and celebrations of dance.

“Desert Arts season will amaze you with quality and professional level of performance and presentations,” says Desert Arts President Phyllis Shovelski. Tickets for the upcoming shows are available online.

Presidio Brass will perform on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Hermiston High School auditorium. Shovelski calls Presidio Brass “the face of a bold new generation in brass entertainment.”

By combining a brass quintet, piano and percussion instruments with fresh, original arrangements, their unique sound has become a trademark for this San Diego ensemble, captivating audiences everywhere. They will launch the DAC season with exciting arrangements from Hollywood movies and.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. performance.

Up next, the Desert Arts will open Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) Fall Watercolor Show on Oct. 3 with an Artist Reception at the Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center (EOHEC) from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This juried transparent watercolor exhibit will feature 80 paintings by Oregon’s finest watercolor painters – the first art exhibit of its scale and caliber in Hermiston, according to Mary Corp, Desert Arts past president and chairwoman of the WSO Fall Convention. In fact, 125 watercolor artists are expected that weekend for the 2015 WSO Fall Convention which will also be held at EOHEC on Oct. 2-3. Artists interested in attending the WSO workshops, demos, and paintouts that weekend should contact Corp for more information. The exhibit will remain hung for the month of October, and will be free and accessible whenever the EOHEC building is open.

On Dec. 2, “Holidazed & Confused Revue” by Second City Comedy Tour will take the stage at the HHS auditorium.

What do Stephen Colbert, John Belushi, Tina Fey, Gilda Radner, Steve Carrell, Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, Mike Myers, and Joan Rivers all have in common? Answer: They are all talents who have emerged from the ranks of The Second City’s many theaters over the years. This boisterous revue will have you laughing all the way through the holiday season. It may contain some adult content.

Watch Hermiston’s own community star celebrities jump, jive, salsa, shake it and more with new routines and toe-tapping action when Dancing With the Hermiston Stars returns on Saturday, Jan. 9. Six local residents join forces with professional dancers to compete for your votes, raise money for charities and take home the mirror ball trophy.

“You don’t have to be a fan of the TV series to come out and have a good time;” says Council member Jacelyn Keys. “It’s an event that all ages can enjoy.” The show begins at 7 p.m. at the HHS auditorium.

Finally, the 12th annual Eastern Oregon Arts Festival will take place in downtown Hermiston on May 6-7.
