The Hermiston Urban Renewal Agency has formed a committee to review applications for façade grants.

The agency appointed Tami Rebman, Bryan Medelez and Joe Thompson to the committee, as well as Hermiston City Councilors Doug Primmer and Lori Davis.

The committee will review applications and award matching fund grants up to 50 percent of improvement costs up to a maximum of $10,000 for exterior work which improves the appearance of downtown properties. Guidelines and applications for the program are available on the city’s website.

Eligible projects must be located within the boundary of the Hermiston Urban Renewal District, and funds may only be used for exterior improvements. Examples of potential projects include:

• Repair, installation, or restoration of exterior masonry or siding
• Repair, installation, or restoration of windows, doors, awnings, or decorative architectural elements
• Repair or installation of exterior lighting
• Exterior paint
• Repair, installation, or restoration of signage
• Landscape or streetscape elements
• Decorative or functional public art, such as decorative benches or trash enclosures
• Other exterior improvements as approved at the discretion of the HURA

Hermiston Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said the law office of John Ballard is the first to apply for a façade grant.
