Edith Jones
Edith Jones
Edith (LeLacheur) Jones died on Feb. 7, 2015 in Mount Angel at the age of 86.

She is survived by her sister, Darlene Wilson; her eight children, Steve Jones (Cecelia), Dan Jones (Jennifer), Katie Thomas (Christopher), Barb Molsee (Stephen), Tom Jones (Carol), Joanne Barnard (Dann), Chris Helton (John), and her beloved Greg; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Edith was born in Missoula, Mont., on Sept. 18, 1928. She graduated from high school in Bozeman, Mont., in 1946. She married Jack Jones in Bozeman in 1950.

A child of the Depression, she knew how to make do. This served her well with her large family. She and the children followed her husband Jack, who died in 2006, from Montana, to Seattle, to Hawaii, and finally to Eastern Oregon, where she lived in Irrigon for 35 years. She moved to assisted living in Mount Angel in 2013.

Edith was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and this provided her with much comfort after Jack’s death in 2006. She was a consummate homemaker, keeping her large family organized and on time to everything. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She often said that “mind thy own business” was the 11th Commandment. She had sayings for many situations. Edith was a longtime member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston. She loved to garden, read, and worked tirelessly on behalf of Special Olympics in support of her youngest child.

She will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Oregon Special Olympics in Edith’s memory.

Recitation of the rosary will be held on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston, with mass of Christian burial to follow at 1:30 p.m.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
