After years of planning, ground will finally be broken for the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center.

The public is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the site, 1510 S. Ott Road, south of Hermiston near the airport.

Initial construction, including site utilities and grading, will be handled by Barton Laser Leveling of Hermiston. Bids for building the event center, rodeo arena and other “vertical construction” have not yet been awarded.

A site plan and walk-through video showing what the new fairgrounds and event center will look like can be found at www.eotechermiston.com. The project is on schedule to be completed in time for the 2016 Umatilla County Fair and Farm-City Pro Rodeo.
