Oregon Gov. Kate Brown visited Pendleton Airport to view a demonstration of the RQ-7B Shadow Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) on Friday, March 20 and announced funding for the Pendleton Unmanned Aerial Systems Range.

The governor was accompanied by Maj. General Daniel Hokanson. Brown said she is hopeful that with the Oregon Army National Guard’s UAS unit operating out of the Pendleton area, it will pave the way for more unmanned aerial vehicle companies to set up operations in Pendleton.

To help make that happen, the governor announced a $545,000 state grant for the funding of hangars and storage facilities at the Pendleton Unmanned Aerial Systems Range.

That money will be added to the $1,115,000 that Business Oregon Director Sean Robbins said is coming from Business Oregon through its infrastructure finance authority.
