The Hermiston School Board will hold a special meeting tonight to consider the recommendation of Kevin Headings to serve as the next principal at West Park Elementary School.

The Hermiston School Board will consider tonight the recommendation that Kevin Headings be the next principal at West Park Elementary School.

The board will hold a special meeting to consider the recommendation at 6:30 p.m. at the boardroom at the district office.

Headings, who currently is the Stanfield school superintendent and principal of Stanfield Elementary School, was recommended by Hermiston School District Superintendent Dr. Fred Maiocco to replace acting West Park Principal Bryn Browning. Browning took over the role of principal when Shane Pratt resigned in October. She will return to her role as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services for the Hermiston School District.

Headings was appointed to serve as principal of Stanfield Elementary School in August 2005. In January 2010, he took over the role of superintendent of schools in addition to his duties as principal. He has served in the dual role for the last three and a half years.

“I am extremely grateful to the Stanfield School District for the last eight years,” Headings said. “I am also very excited to be joining the Hermiston School District team.”

The recommendation by Maiocco to hire Headings comes after an extensive hiring process spanning several months. Headings was selected from a pool of candidates from across Oregon and Washington. In addition to Headings, the other finalists for the job were Brad Bixler of Pendleton, Michael Roberts of Prosser, Wash., and Deborah Crueger of Newberg.

Headings and his family currently reside within the Hermiston School District boundaries.
