Hermiston Parks Department Offering Slew of Fall Sports Leagues, Clinics

The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department is offering lots of sports activities to keep us all busy this fall, from toddler to adult. Here’s what’s available:

Youth Flag Football Leagues (grades 1-2 and 3-4) – The season for these coed leagues runs Sept. 8-Oct. 20. All practices and games are on Saturdays at Theater Sports Park, and all equipment is provided. The cost is $35 for residents or $44 for non-residents. Jerseys are $20 each if needed. The signup deadline is Friday, Aug. 24.

Volunteer coaches who complete the season will receive a credit equivalent to one registration fee and a $25 credit for the Hermiston Family Aquatic Center.

Youth Volleyball Leagues (grades 3-4 and 5-6) – These non-competitive coed leagues will play Sept. 8-Oct. 20. All practices and games are on Saturdays at Sandstone Middle School. The cost is $35 for residents or $44 for non-residents. Jerseys are $20 each if needed. The signup deadline is Friday, Aug. 24.

There will be a Meet the Coach meeting for parents on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 5:45 p.m. at the Hermiston Community Center.

Adult Coed Volleyball Leagues (4-on-4 competitive and recreational) – Players must be at least 18, not high school students and not playing volleyball in college. No competitive league players are allowed in the recreational league. Captains must sign up all players. Roster size is limited to 12. Post-season single elimination tournaments will be included with each season.

Leagues play on Sundays, Sept. 16-Nov. 4 at the Hermiston High School gold gym. The team fee is $150.00. The signup deadline is Friday, Aug. 24.

Adult Flag Football League – Players must be at least 18, not high school students and not playing football in college. The league is 8 on 8 non-contact. Team captains must sign up all the players. Roster size is limited to 20. Post-season single elimination tournaments will be included with each season.

The league plays on Saturdays, September-November on the field by Sunset Elementary School. The team fee is $475. The signup deadline is Friday, Aug. 24.

Junior Football Clinics – Participants will learn the fundamentals of football through fun games designed to develop skills. They will be taught passing, running, catching, defense and teamwork. Each week, skill stations will be set up and the children will rotate through them.

Clinics take place on Saturdays, Sept. 8-Oct. 13 at Theater Sports Park. The cost is $27 for residents or $34 for non-residents. The signup deadline is Friday, Aug. 24.

Gymnastics Classes – Classes for skill levels 1, 2, 3 and 4 run September-December, with three sessions per level. The cost per session is $30 for residents or $38 for non-residents. The classes take place at the Hermiston Community Center. The signup deadline is one week prior. For age requirements and session dates, go to the parks department website or call 541-667-5018.

SuperTots Sports Academy – This physical development program offered by Skyhawks Sports is for children 18 months-4 years. It uses fun games in a non-competitive environment to delight and engage kids in physical and mental learning through various sports.

Session 1 runs Sept. 12-Oct. 3, and Session 2, Oct. 17-Nov. 7. For more information and to register, go online.

Parent-Tot Gymnastics – These classes will help children ages 2-4 years increase body control, motor skills and creativity through music and activities. Parents share movement games, singing and finger play while bonding with their children.

Three sessions are offered from September through November at the Hermiston Community Center. The cost per session is $25 for residents or $31 for non-residents. The signup deadline is one week prior.
