Thirteen Hermiston High School students were inducted into the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society Thursday night in a ceremony held in the HHS auditorium.

“The National Honor Society is built around the concepts of character, scholarship, leadership and service,” said chapter adviser Chris Demianew. “Each of the members that are here tonight were inducted for their history of those traits, those leadership experiences, their scholarship, and mostly for their character.”

Inducted Thursday night were Andrea Chapman, Hanna Dobson, Sofia Gispert, Denisia Leon, Ashley Moser, Kate Nordquist, Brandi White, Jessica Dixon, Andrea Gispert, Megan Kane, Sydney Moore, Oanh Kim Nguyen and Michael Potts.

“We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body,” Demianew said. “National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community.”

The Hermiston High School chapter has been active since 1949. Each year the chapter sponsors several service projects for the school and community.

The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students. There are chapters in more than 16,000 high schools and, since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership.

Millions of dollars in scholarships have been awarded to senior members since 1945 by the sponsoring organization, the National Association of Secondary School Principals.
