Good Shepherd Health Care System will participate in a disaster preparedness drill on Thursday, Oct. 6.

According to GSHCS spokesperson and Public Information Officer Nick Bejarano, this simulation, which takes place at 6 p.m., will train GSHCS staff on their roles, responsibilities, how to interact with outside agencies, and better prepare them to deal with a real disaster.

This drill will involve many local agencies and their support personnel in addition to GSHCS staff, including:

• Hermiston Police Department
• Oregon State Police
• Oregon State Bomb Squad
• Umatilla County Emergency Management
• Umatilla County Fire District #1
• Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office
• The National Weather Service
• LifeFlight

Bejarano said GSHCS will remain fully operational during the disaster preparedness drill.

“If you have an appointment scheduled around the time of the disaster preparedness drill you may hear and see our emergency response system, and additional law enforcement officials, but rest assured that this is only a drill,” he said.
