Two men are in the hospital and another man is in jail following a stabbing that took place Sunday night.

According to Hermiston Police Chief Jason Edmiston, officers responded to 2350 Kelli Boulevard just before 10 p.m. for a report of an assault. Officers found two men – 72-year-old Harold Piercy and 64-year-old Richard Rukaveno, both of 2350 Kelli Blvd. – with stab wounds. Edmiston said the two men were transported out of Hermiston by LifeFlight to Portland for treatment. Their condition is serious but stable, Edmiston said.

The police department’s major crime team was activated and the Oregon State Police Crime Lab responded, as well.

Edmiston said Hermiston resident Aaron M. Zuwala was arrested this morning around 6:50 a.m. and is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon. Zuwala is a former Pendleton resident who now lives on the 1600 block of West Sunland Avenue in Hermiston.

Edmiston said all three parties knew each other.
