In cooperation with Umatilla County Emergency Management, the National Weather Service will hold a weather spotter training class at the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the media room.

Spotters relay their reports to the weather service as they see severe weather happening. The information is used by forecasters to track storms and alert the public to dangerous situations, often saving countless lives, especially during heavy rain, thunderstorms and wind storms.

The course includes information about the National Weather Service, tornadoes, thunderstorms, flash floods, dust storms, high winds and winter storms. Students who complete the course will receive a training certificate. You do not have to be a Umatilla County resident to attend.

The sheriff’s office is located at 4700 N.W. Pioneer Place in Pendleton. For more information, call the emergency management office at 541-966-3700.
