Parks Department Wants Folks of All Ages to Put on Their Dancing Shoes

The Hermiston Parks and Recreation Department is offering several types of dance classes in March and April for children all the way to adults.

Youth Dance is an introduction to very basic techniques for kids ages 3-6 years. The cost is $30 for residents or $38 for non-residents. Classes are on Thursdays in March at the Hermiston Community Center. There’s a dance performance at the end of the session, with no additional costume costs involved.

Basic Social Dance classes are for those 14 and older and teach the basic rhythms for foxtrot, waltz and cha cha. The cost is $30 for residents or $38 for non-residents. Classes are on Wednesdays in March in the Hermiston Library basement. Participants 14-17 years old must have an adult participating or watching the class.

Single-Step Swing is a versatile dance suited to a variety of tempos and music genres. This dance is the simplest of all dances to learn. Classes are for those 14 and older. The cost is $30 for residents or $38 for non-residents. Classes are on Wednesdays in March in the Hermiston Library basement. Participants 14-17 years old must have an adult participating or watching the class.

Night Club 2-Step is a slow romantic dance that has gained popularity for its smooth motions and graceful appearance. Classes are for those 14 and older. The cost is $30 for residents or $38 for non-residents. Classes are on Wednesdays in April in the Hermiston Library basement. Participants 14-17 years old must have an adult participating or watching the class.

Salsa uses steps in Merengue and Mambo, lending itself well to the small dance floor. Classes are for those 14 and older. The cost is $30 for residents or $38 for non-residents.
