Services Set for Hermiston's Burt Paine

Burton H. “Burt” Paine of Hermiston died on May 11, 2015 in Hermiston at the age of 89.

He was born on Jan. 26, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo., to Benjamin Burton and Minnie Jewell Harris Paine.

Burt was raised in Eagle, Idaho. He graduated from Boise High School in the class of 1944. Burt then joined the United States Army in 1945 and served during World War II and later the Korean Conflict before his honorable discharge in 1955. Burt was united in marriage to Mescal Payne on June 2, 1952 in Daily City, Calif. They moved to Hermiston and Burt worked for PGG and then owned and operated Burt’s Texaco and later for the city of Hermiston in the Street Department from 1978 until retiring in 1988. Burt was a member of the Hermiston Christian Center, and the Happy Ramblers Travel Club. He and Mescal spent winters snow-birding from 1988 until 2005. Burt enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mescal Paine, Hermiston; son, Douglas Paine and wife, Tia, Hermiston; daughter, Corinne Peacock and husband, Terrence, Sherwood; sister, Donna Moore, Nampa, Idaho; five grandchildren, Dawn, Ty, Kurtis, Andrea, and Ashli; and nine great-grandchildren.

Burt was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Boyd; and two sisters, Margaret and Betty.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Hermiston Christian Center, 1825 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
