Services Set for Hermiston's James Hurtado

James Hurtado
James J. “JJ” Hurtado of Hermiston died on Aug. 18, 2016 in Hermiston at the age of 14.

He was born on May 19, 2002 in Boise, Idaho.

JJ was raised and attended elementary schools in Hermiston and had just graduated from Sandstone Middle School in Hermiston in June 2016. He played Grid Kids football for 4 years and then on the Sandstone football team, and had just started on the cross country team. JJ’s passion was wrestling, in which he has competed in since the 3rd grade. He had attended the Hermiston Assembly of God Youth Group. JJ was always joking around and was quite the prankster. He was the first one to offer help to others and was willing to look out for anyone being picked on. JJ liked to play video games and hang out with his friends.

He is survived by his parents: Andria Bye, Hermiston, OR, Leonardo Hurtado, Umatilla, OR; siblings: Olivia, Rosa, Erik, Amanda, Itzel, Aiden, & Lenny; grandparents: James Bye, Umatilla, Deanna Bye, Hermiston, OR, Juan & Rosa Hurtado, California; 1 niece; 1 nephew; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

JJ was preceded in death by his grandmother, Janice Bye.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016 at 10 a.m. at the Hermiston Assembly of God, 730 E. Hurlburt Ave., Hermiston.

Those who wish may make contributions in JJ’s memory to Hermiston Youth Wrestling or Hermiston Grid Kids Football.
