The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office will have several DUII/High Visibility Enforcement grant events during the month of July including:

  • Independence Day holiday – July 3-4
  • Pendleton Whisky Music Fest – July 13-14
  • Pendleton Bike Week – July 17-July 22

During these events, the Sheriff’s Office will have additional deputies patrolling the roadways looking for impaired and/or distracted drivers.

In 2016, 188 people were killed in crashes involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration of .08% or higher. This was a 28 percent increase from 2015. Nearly half of those who died were in a vehicle with at least one driver with a blood alcohol concentration of .15% or higher – almost twice the legal limit. These statistics do not include persons driving under the influence of drugs, or a combination of drugs and alcohol.

These events are funded through a grant from the Oregon State Sheriff’s Association.
