A Walla Walla man was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver Friday when he was out of his vehicle checking its tire pressure, according to the Oregon State Police.

The OSP is reporting that Dennis Tim Cheney, 59, of Walla Walla, had parked his 1998 Dodge pick-up truck and large flatbed trailer on the westbound shoulder facing Interstate 84. As he was checking the air pressure of his trailer tires, a 2016 Jeep SUV driven by Adrienne Marie Larsen, 32, of Boise, Idaho, was traveling westbound on Oregon Route 86 just east of the I-84 interchange at milepost 302. Larsen’s vehicle crossed the right fog line and struck Cheney who suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Larsen was uninjured and was taken into custody and lodged in the Baker County Jail on charges of DUII, first- and second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.

Oregon Route 86 was closed for about four hours.
