Thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Desert Arts Council, history will come to life on Oct. 15, 2013 when Ed Asner brings his one-man performance of FDR to Hermiston.

“FDR is remembered as the man who championed the United State through the Depression and in the years leading up to World War II,” said Larry Fetter, chairman of the Desert Arts performance. “Portraying this progressive and iconic man is no easy task, but Asner presents with the raw emotion of a man possessed. We are excited to show case FDR as the Desert Arts season kickoff event. It is a commanding performance and will be a night to remember.”

Equally adept at comedy as he is at drama, Ed Asner made a name for himself as one of the most outstanding and most respected actors of his generation, winner of seven acting Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild.

“Ed Asner is a television legend,” says Mary Corp, president of Desert Arts. “I remember watching him as Lou Grant in the Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

Asner’s performance will take place at the Hermiston High School Performing Arts Auditorium, 600 S First Street in Hermiston. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, performance begins promptly at 7 p.m. Tickets ($50 adult, $25 child) can be purchased individually or as a part of Desert Arts season ticket packages at www.desertartscouncil.com or at the Hermiston Chamber office and at the Hermiston Parks and Recreation office at City Hall. Corp said season tickets give the best value, and also help support the arts in our area.

Following the presidential beginning, this Desert Arts season includes The Swing Dolls, a vocal trio of charming, funny and sexy ladies scheduled for Nov. 22 and then on Jan. 11, Dancing with Your Stars will be back (Tickets $30 adult, $20 child) with new acts and new community dancers raising money for local community charities. On Feb. 15, the SAGE Center will host Love Letters, an elegant evening affair that includes a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. The final event of the season will be the 10th Annual Hermiston Art Walk on the first weekend in May on Main Street in Hermiston.
