Two Blue Mountain Community College students were honored on Monday by
Gov. Kate Brown as exemplary community college students as part of the All-Oregon Academic Team.

Robert Brown and Megan Croxford, both of whom live in Pendleton, were honored during a luncheon at the Salem Convention Center.

Robert Brown

The All-Oregon Academic Team, part of the national All-State Community College Academic Team program, recognizes high-achieving two-year college students who demonstrate academic excellence and intellectual rigor combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom to benefit society. Phi Theta Kappa honor society, community college presidents and community college state associations sponsor the All-State Community College Academic Team ceremonies in 38 participating states.

Brown, 37, and originally from Montana, will graduate this spring from BMCC with an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree, and plans to transfer to Western Oregon University in Monmouth to study pottery. His goal is to earn a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts, followed by a Master of Fine Arts, so that he can one day open his own pottery studio and teach others. Brown has been an active student leader at BMCC, where he’s been a member of the Associated Student Government, TRiO and Phi Theta Kappa honor society. His 3.92 GPA has earned him a spot on both the Dean’s List and President’s List, as well as garnered numerous scholarships.

Megan Croxford

Croxford, 27, and originally from Portland, will graduate this spring and plans to transfer in the fall to Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, where she’ll work towards a Bachelor’s of Arts in Sociology. Croxford is a volunteer for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and a recovery mentor, and is passionate about spending time with her children. Croxford’s 3.9 GPA has earned her spots on the Dean’s and President’s Lists, and she’s a member of Phi Theta Kappa.

“Robert and Megan have worked extremely hard and are very deserving of this prestigious honor,” said BMCC President Cam Preus, who attended the recognition ceremony with the two students.  “Completing an education with the kind of success they have earned takes real commitment and dedication.”

Students from the 38 participating states nominated to the All-USA Community College Academic Team are automatically named to the All-State Community College Academic Teams. Students receive medallions and certificates at the state-level recognition ceremony, along with scholarships. The purpose of the team is to promote statewide to legislators, and corporate, community and education leaders the quality instruction and outstanding students our community colleges produce.
