The Pendleton Contra Dance Community will hold a Valentine’s contra dance on Thursday, Feb. 14.

The dance will take place 7 p.m. at the Pendleton Center for the Arts (PCA). No partner is needed. The cost is $8 per person or $12 per couple.

Finger food to share is welcomed.

Contra dancing has its origins in a range of folk traditions, including English country dance and Appalachian dancing. It’s a form of social dancing that one can attend without a partner. Dancers are paired up in long lines and follow the instructions of a caller. At dances, callers teach the sequence of the dance steps before the music starts. The dances feature live music by local musicians.

The Pendleton Contra Dance Community will generally hold dances on the second Friday of each month through June.
