Big Night for Hermiston's Massey at Farm-City

Hermiston’s Dalton Massey made the most of his first appearance of the week at the Farm-City Pro Rodeo Friday night by claiming the fastest time of the evening in the steer wrestling competition.

The Hermiston High grad had a time of 5.6, a full second ahead of John Green of La Grande. Carl Seiders of Adrian had the fastest combined time of the day with a two-go time of 13.5. Nick Guy has the fastest combined time of the week with a 13.1.

Bull riders had a better time of it on Friday than the first two days when only two riders from Wednesday had a score. On Friday, Casey White earned the best score of the week with an 84, followed by Parker Breding’s 82 and Guy Nordahl’s 79.

In barrel racing, Pam Capper had the fastest run of the night with a 17.22 and a combined time of 34.91 on two runs. She and others still trail Carlee Pierce, whose 16.92 time on Wednesday is still the top mark of the week, as is her combined time of 34.05.

On the saddle bronc side of things, Sam Kelts notched the top score of the week on Friday with an 83, followed by Cort Scheer, whose 80 ties him with Tyrell Smith, Troy Crowser and Cody DeMoss.

In the team-roping event, the fastest time on Friday was a 4.5 seconds by Brandon Beers and Jim Ross Cooper. The father-son team of Allen Bach and Joel Bach had a 5.0, as did Aaron Tsinigine and Ryan Motes.

Friday night also saw both Kaycee Feild and Bobby Mote earn an 86, tying them with first-night leader J.R. Vezain.

In tie-down roping, Clint Robinson had a combined time of 16.9 in two goes to take the average lead for the week.
