A Hermiston man was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to sex crimes against a child.

Umatilla County Circuit Court Judge Dan Hill sentenced Jesus Chacon, 48, to 12 and a half years in prison after Chacon pleaded guilty on July 10 to one count of first-degree attempted unlawful sexual penetration and one count of first-degree sex abuse.

The charges stem from an investigation last November in which a 9-year-old girl reported to her parents that she had been sexually abused by Chacon. He was arrested by Hermiston Police on Nov. 23, 2013.

After his release from prison, Chacon will be on post-prison supervision for four to six years, complete a sex offender treatment program, register as a sex offender and could face deportation.
