Two Hermiston men were wounded Wednesday evening, Sept. 13, in a gun-related altercation in the 290 block of East Hurlburt Avenue.

According to the Hermiston Police Department, officers responded shortly after 8 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the area of East Hurlburt Avenue and Southeast Third Street. Upon arriving at the residence in question, they found blood and signs of an alteraction.

Later that night, police learned that Cuauthemoc Romero, 52, and Moises Garcia, 57, both of Hermiston, arrived separately at Good Shepherd Medical Center with gunshot wounds. The Oregon State Police forensic unit and detectives then responded to and processed the crime scene.

According to reports, Romero was wounded in the abdomen and shoulder and transported via LifeFlight to an unidentified hospital in Portland. No information was immediately available about Garcia’s head wound other than the bullet did not penetrate his skull. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

During their on-scene investigation at the residence, officers found a black 2013 Chevrolet Silverado in the driveway. Police said the truck has been impounded and a search warrant will be issued.

Police noted that Romero is the husband of Graciela Garcia, who was reported missing on Nov. 11, 2019. Garcia was identified as her brother. No arrests have been made. The Portland Police Bureau and the Oregon State Police are working to gather evidence from Romero, according to HPD.
