BMCC’s Meat Science Lab Will Soon Take Custom Orders from Public

Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) has announced that its meat science lab will be able to accept custom processing orders from the public beginning Jan. 2, 2024.

BMCC recently received a $300,000 grant through a partnership with Oregon State University’s Extension Service, which came from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture to begin addressing the shortage of entry-level employees in the meat processing industry. The grant has allowed BMCC to expand its processing program and hire a meat lab manager.

“We’re working with the OSU Extension Service to design a meat processing certification program in the next year or so,” says BMCC Agricultural instructor Matt Liscom, “but now we are open and ready for business.”
