Interstate 84 opened Wednesday between Troutdale at milepost 17 and Hood River at milepost 64 following an ice storm that closed the interstate for nearly 31 hours.

Chains are required from milepost 37 to 63 for all vehicles over 10,000 gross vehicle weight or vehicles towing. For more chain information go to Tripcheck.com.

Conditions in the Gorge may continue to change quickly. Oregon Department of Transportation crews have worked through the storm laying down sand, salt and deicer and will continue to do so. This helps to break up the packed ice and snow, but some areas remain slick.

A team of plows led the line of traffic from the closure points on both ends and set a slow and steady pace. They plowed as they went and continued to work through the night treating the road.
