Made to Thrive and the Hermiston Parks & Recreation Department will break ground on new athletic playing fields and amenities at Harrison Park on Wednesday at noon.

The event is open to the public.

The project includes three basketball courts, new soccer goals, and a picnic pavilion. Lights and security cameras will be installed at the basketball courts.

“We’re excited to help bring these facilities and opportunities to this growing part of the community,” said Kriss Dammeyer, executive director of Made to Thrive. “Sports are a great way for families to spend time together, and these courts and fields will give youth in the neighborhood a safe place to play.”

Harrison Park is located at the south end of NW 13th Street near the Oxbow Trail. It is two blocks west of the new Moorehouse Apartment complex.

Supporters of the project include Carlisle & Lydia Harrison, Dicks Sporting Goods, Ford Family Foundation, Good Shepherd Community Health Foundation, 100 Women Who Care, Juvenile Crime Prevention, and Hermiston Parks & Recreation.
