The Hermiston City Council approved more than $96,000 in funding to 12 local organizations at its Monday meeting.
The funding comes from the city’s Transient Room Tax/Tourism reserve account. The Recreation Project Fund Advisory Committee met on June 18 to review the 12 proposals submitted for the 2024-25 allocation.
The committee recommended, and the council approved, funding for the following groups:
- Hermiston Parks and Recreation – Requested $20,000 and received $13,000 for annual free community events
- Cinco de Mayo – Requested $15,000 and received $9,750 for 2025 Cinco de Mayo event
- Hermiston Basketball Club – Requested $10,000 and received $6,500 for tournament awards
- Campus Life – Requested $5,000 and received $3,250 for a cargo trailer
- Cultural Awareness Coalition – Requested $5,000 and received $3,250 for the 2025 Juneteenth celebration
- Masonic Lodge – Requested $3,500 and received $2,275 to help with the Oregon Masonic celebration
- Greater Hermiston Community Foundation – Requested $15,000 and received $9,750 for pickleball courts
- Made to Thrive/HEROS – Requested $50,000 and received $32,500 for the HEROS Sports Complex
- AYSO – Requested $5,393 and received $3,505 for equipment
- Community Counseling Solutions – Requested $4,950 and received $3,218 for a summer skills group
- Hermiston Downtown District – Requested $8,000 and received $5,200 for Melonfest
- Hermiston Downtown District – Requested $7,150 and received $4,648 for downtown flowers
The groups asked for a combined total of $148,993 and received $96,845.
