The tagline is 450 Years in 45 Minutes. The message is telling the story of Oregon’s Black History .
“People of African descent have lived and worked in Oregon since before the founding of the earliest English-speaking settlements in the Americas. Despite this, the popular narrative of our state’s history excludes the experiences of African Americans before the mid-20th century,” said Mariah Rocker, Public Programs and Exhibits manager at Oregon Black Pioneers. “For this presentation, Oregon Black Pioneers will attempt to correct the record by highlighting key individuals and events that characterize Oregon’s unique and centuries-old Black history.”
A special exhibit is coming to Pendleton in the month of October to raise awareness of Oregon’s Black History. The visual exhibit will open in the Law Library at the Pendleton Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 5 and will remain open to the public during library hours through Saturday, Nov.2.
A special presentation will take place 11 a.m. Oct. 5 in the library at Blue Mountain Community College. Rocker will be the featured speaker.
The exhibit is funded by the Oregon Remembrance Project.
