Morrow County School District’s Community Bond Advisory Committee is working on the next steps in the pre-bond process.

The school district in a press release reported the committee in October will create draft recommendations for proposed bond projects, which will then be presented to the district’s board of directors, followed by a two-month period for community feedback.

“The important work of the (committee) in reviewing district facility needs and deciding on potential bond projects at our schools is on track,” Matt Combe, MCSD superintendent, said in the release.

As part of the pre-bond process, the press release stated the school board has adopted the following goals: to ensure all buildings are structurally safe; extend the life of the buildings for future generations of students; be the Eastern Oregon leader for career and technical education as well as science, technology, engineering, art and math programs; and create inspiring educational environments that are “uniquely Morrow County.”

The school district in January formed the committee of 21 community members from Boardman, Heppner, Irrigon and Lexington. The committee began its work by reviewing needs the district’s facilities assessment identified, according to the press release. The committee meets monthly to consider options for submitting a possible capital construction bond to voters in May 2025.
