Marie-Luise “Mary” “Marlies” Logosz died on Nov. 29, 2024 at her home in Hermiston. After 73 years, Mary lost her life to cancer.
Born on April 24, 1951 in Germany to Marta and Erwin S., she was the fourth child of seven.
Her family and friends from the old country called her by her nickname, Marlies. She had to say goodbye to her older siblings and still has three siblings in Germany. She had a big family. In the ‘70s she met a U.S. Army soldier; she married David and moved to the U.S. Shortly after, they had their first and only child, Christy.
Life is a moving flow of events, so it happened that after a 15-year relationship with David, the marriage ended. She stayed in Germany with her daughter. She raised Christy to become an independent person. With all the ups and downs of a mother-daughter relationship, Christy and Mary kept their relationship close.
But life is always moving forward. Mary met another American soldier, not in active duty, though. In a country bar in a German city, to the sounds of “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” from Brooks & Dunn, Marlies met Larry. Larry became Mary’s second husband and the love of her life for the last 32 years. On Dec. 4, 26 years ago, they married. Larry has become not just a great husband but a loving dad, as well. He has completed Mary’s life.
Marlies was a home maker – a creative, homely and caring person. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting. Larry and Mary had many adventures, from the mountains to the ocean. She loved her oldie and country music radio stations. Mary enjoyed life right up to the last moment.
We will miss Mary as she embarks on her last adventure without her family. But one day we shall see her again. Oh boy, what stories will we share!
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston.
