Gerald Franklin Brooks died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Wash., at the age of 87.

He was born on June 19, 1926 at Sioux City, Iowa to Frank and Bethene (Casing) Brooks.

Gerald was raised in Gresham and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in Japan after the war. On January 22, 1949 he married Charlotte Ora Shuman in Camas, Wash. Gerald went to work for the Spokane, Portland, and Seattle Railway (SP & S) as a telegrapher in October of 1950. They lived in Spokane, Roosevelt, Lamont, and finally to Plymouth, Washington where he retired in the early 1980s. He enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, taking pictures of mountains, videotaping, and traveling in his motor home.

He is survived by sons, Charles (Debra) Brooks of Springtown, Texas, and Allen R. Brooks of Plymouth, Wash.; brother, Larry Brooks of Gresham; grandsons, Charles, Cory, and Marc Brooks; and great-grandsons, Dylan, Brandon, and Bryan Brooks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Ora Brooks in 2007; son, Jerry Brooks; daughter, Ellen Brooks; and sister, Betty Price.

A memorial service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Burns Mortuary Chapel, 685 W. Hermiston Ave., Hermiston. A luncheon will follow at Sun Terrace, 1550 NW 11th Street, in Hermiston. Private burial was held earlier at the Hermiston Cemetery.
