She was born on Aug. 27, 1939 in Appleton, Minn., to John and Wilhelmina Danens Hendrickson. Joann was raised and attended schools in Portland. She moved to Hermiston in 1974 where she has lived since. Joann was the first female car salesperson in Hermiston, working for Rohrman Ford. She later managed the Hermiston Elks Lodge before going to work for JR Simplot where she worked for 24 years before retiring. Joann married James R. “Jim” Murray on March 3, 1980 in Richland, Wash. She enjoyed riding horseback, painting Native American art, and reading.
She is survived by her sons, Richard Heyne (Penny), Stanfield, and John Heyne (Peggy), Otis; brother, John Hendrickson, California; grandchildren, Kyle, Kaylee and Jeremy; and great-grandchildren, Greyson, Hayden and Constance Jean.
Joann was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a brother, Rick Hendrickson.
A celebration gathering will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013 at 1 p.m., at the Hermiston Cemetery.
