Former Century 21 Now Hermiston Realty – Complete with Hermiston Purple
Members of the Hermiston Chamber of Commerce attended the Alive After 5 event at Hermiston Realty on Wednesday to learn about the new business venture.
Owner Donn Walls severed his business ties with Century 21 in January and changed the name to Hermiston Realty.
He said that it was “a good split,” and that the community feedback has been “incredible.”
“I’ve been very fortunate with good clients,” he said. “I’m very blessed.”
Walls’ business functions the same as when it was Century 21, but he has given it a distinctly Hermistonian flavor — complete with purple décor in honor of Hermiston High School.
Walls has 15 years of experience in real estate. He spent 12 years with Century 21 and, prior to that, worked for three years with Charlotte Dack, owner of Universal Realty in Hermiston. He considers Dack his mentor.
Realty is Walls’ second career. He was a florist for 25 years and owned a combined tea shop and floral business in California.
“My family’s all (in the Hermiston area),” he said. “One day my mother called me (at the shop in California) and said, ‘I really want you to move home.’ I said I didn’t want to move back to Hermiston because the wind is always blowing.”
He described looking out the window of his California shop and seeing some eucalyptus trees that had leaves growing on only one side due to the wind. “I thought, ‘What am I saying?’ and I decided to move back.”
Hermiston Realty is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and by appointment on weekends.
