Semi Crashes, Spills Diesel Near Arlington

Oregon State Police (OSP) are investigating a traffic crash on Interstate 84 westbound near milepost 138 in Arlington.

According to the OSP, a westbound semi-truck and trailer, driven by Casey A. Leppert, 23, of Caldwell, Idaho, left its lane of travel and crashed, damaging the center barrier and spilling approximately 150 gallons of diesel fuel then catching fire. Hazardous material crews arrived on the scene and contained the fuel and none was believed to have reached the Columbia River.

Leppert was not injured during the crash or subsequent fire.

Westbound traffic was diverted through Arlington while crews cleaned up the interstate.

OSP was assisted by the Gilliam County Sheriff’s Office, Hermiston Fire Department Haz-Mat Team, Arlington Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
