Hermiston's Robert Willet Passes Away at 96

Robert R. “Bob” Willet died on June 20, 2015 at his home in Hermiston at the age of 96.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1919 in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada to Elmer and Gertrude Forrester Willett. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II. He saw combat in Europe where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. He lived in California and worked at a hospital as a supervisor in environmental services for several years. Bob and his life partner, Joan Wick, have been together since 1984. They lived in San Jose, Calif., for many years before moving to Paradise, Calif., and then to Hermiston where they have lived for the last 10 years. Bob was an avid bowler and fisherman who enjoyed western music and movies.

He is survived by his life partner, Joan Wick, Hermiston; sons, Dwane Willet and Bobby Willet, California; daughter, Sandra Payne Willet, Calif.; sister, Dorothy Elizabeth Willet; two grandchildren, Mindy & Micheal; and two great-grandchildren, Oliva & R J.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
