Firefighters worked most of Tuesday afternoon putting out a brush fire that consumed 1,000 acres in the community of Paterson.

The fire, which may have been started by wheat harvesting equipment, was contained by 3:30 p.m. Approximately 60 firefighters from agencies in Benton and Franklin counties fought the blaze.

Although the fire threatened some homes in the area, no evacuation orders were made. The fire did not approach Columbia Crest Winery, the state’s largest wintery, located about 11/2 miles north of Paterson along State Route 221.
