BMCC Hoopsters Earn Honors

Two Blue Mountain Community College basketball standouts have been selected to play in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) Sophomore All-Star games this Thursday.

Jared Schultz from the men’s team and Savannah Heugly from the women’s team will play in their respective matches at Everett Community College, where the NWAC Championship Tournament will be held later this week. Only 20 players from the entire NWAC were selected to play in each of the men’s and women’s All-Star games.

Schultz, a 6’2” guard from Stevensville, Mont., was one of just five men from the NWAC Eastern Region chosen to play in the All-Star game. The Eastern and North regions will combine to play against the South and Western regions at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Heugly, a 5’11” forward from Tualatin, Ore., was one of just five women from the NWAC Eastern Region selected for the All-Star game. The Eastern and North regions will combine to play against the South and Western regions at 6 p.m. Thursday. Heugly was just last week named to the NWAC All-Eastern Region first team and All-Defensive team for her outstanding efforts this season, as well as to the NWAC Winter Term Academic Excellence Team.

On the men’s side, 6’4” guard/forward Luke Meyers of Boise, Idaho, was also named to the NWAC Winter Term Academic Excellence Team.

“At BMCC, we place academics and strength of character before the scoreboard,” said Vice President of Student Affairs Diane Drebin. “We are so proud of our student athletes and their many accomplishments, both in the classroom as well as on the court, field, or in the arena. I very much appreciate the emphasis our coaches place on academics with our student athletes.”
