Hermiston's Romana Ramirez Passes Away at 87

Romana Ramirez of Hermiston died on July 4, 2016 in Hermiston at the age of 87.

She was born on Aug. 9, 1928 in Marquez, Texas. Romana was raised and attended schools in Mitchell, Neb. She married Frank Deleon Ramirez on January 10, 1948 in Mitchell. They lived in Sidney, Neb., until moving to Hermiston in 1964 where they have lived since. Romana stayed at home to raise her children until they were in school.

Romana worked full time as a nurse’s aid at Good Samaritan Center, and while working attended Blue Mountain College to acquire her LPN nursing degree. She continued working as a nurse at Good Samaritan Nursing Home until retiring in 1990. Romana was a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church where she was active in Catholic Daughters. She was also a former member of the Eagles Auxiliary # 2909. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, crocheting, and most of all time with her family.

Romana was a loving wife, mother and grandmother that always put the needs of others before her own. She was supportive, nurturing, a hard worker and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was known for her words of wisdom and her family dinners. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family and loved ones know her to be a saint walking among us, whose heart, body and soul are unparalled and feel certain God received her with open arms.

She is survived by her husband: Frank Ramirez, Hermiston, OR; sons: Frank Ramirez II (Kathy), Hillsboro, OR, Tom Ramirez (Michelle), Hermiston, OR; daughters: Joan Rawson(John), Damascus, OR, Marian Ellwanger (John), Umatilla, OR; brothers: Victor Hernandez, Mitchell, NE, & Lou Hernandez, Omaha, NE; sisters: Jenny Herrera & Julia Castillo, both of Mitchell, NE, Connie Slenker, Dover, PA, & Mary Kresha, San Antonio, TX; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Romana was preceded in death by her daughter, Annette Quick.

Recitation of the rosary will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Hermiston with Mass of Christian burial to follow at 2 p.m.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
