Umatilla County Fire District #1 Fire Chief Scott Stanton is crediting the newly-staffed station with saving a family’s home Monday night.

Around 7:17 p.m. on Monday, the fire district received a report of a structure fire in the area of N. Ott Road. The new Station 22 is located at the intersection of Diagonal Road and Pumpkin Center Road. Stanton said an engine from the new station arrived at the fire within two minutes of the call.

Once there, firefighters found a 12-foot-by-12-foot shed fully engulfed in flames. The shed was located about five feet from the family’s home. A fire engine from Hermiston’s downtown station arrived just over seven minutes after receiving the call.

“The time difference of five minutes without a doubt saved the family’s home from also catching fire,” Stanton said.
