Bonnie Phillips of Hermiston Passes Away at 84

Yvonne L. “Bonnie” Phillips died on April 26, 2017 at home in Hermiston at the age of 84.

She was born on July 10, 1932 in Douglas, Wyo. to Harry and Mabel Walker Wileman.

She was raised in Murdo, S.D. She attended Black Hills Teachers College and then three years of Bible College before returning to Black Hills Teachers College to get her bachelor’s degree in education. She taught in a country school in South Dakota for four years and then one year in Minnesota before moving to Oregon in 1962. She taught at Stanfield Elementary School until she retired in the mid-1990s.

She married Melvin A. “Mel” Phillips, and they lived in Hermiston. She enjoyed fishing, reading (especially her Bible), western movies and children. She was a member of TOPS and the Hermiston Assembly of God Church, and recently attended the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Wynona McCurdy, Hermiston; brothers, Russell Wileman, Prior Lake, Minn., Dale Wileman, Rapid City, S.D., and Daryl Wileman, Clark, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers Donivan and Boyd.

A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017 at 4 p.m. at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 125 E. Beech St., Hermiston.

Burial will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
