Oregon State Rep. Greg Smith (R-Heppner) has been nominated by the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) as a 2017 Capitol Caregiver.
Smith was honored for his commitment to advocating policies that help caregivers access the tools and resources needed to care for Oregon’s aging population.
“I’m very humbled to receive this honor,” said Smith. “It is critically important that senior citizens and retired Oregonians have access to the kind of care they need and deserve. There is a real need in our communities for more caregivers, especially in our rural areas, and I am proud to partner with organizations like AARP to make sure that every Oregonian has access to quality care.”
According to AARP, 469,000 Oregonians care for aging loved ones, often at enormous personal sacrifice. The State of Oregon has prioritized support for these caregivers through programs like Oregon Project Independence and the Aging Disability Resource Connections program. Smith has been and will continue to be a vocal supporter of these proven programs.
Smith is currently serving his ninth consecutive term in the Oregon House of Representatives. As the state representative for House District 57, he serves constituents in Umatilla, Morrow, Gilliam, Sherman and Wasco counties.
