Helen J. Hastings of Irrigon died on Feb. 27, 2018 in Stanfield at the age of 81.
She was born on June 4, 1936 in Berlin, N.D. to Joseph John Shockman and Eva Lutkin Shockman.
When she was a small child, her family moved to The Dalles and later settled in Hermiston. Helen married Leland E. “Lee” Hastings on Dec. 21, 1956 in Hermiston. They lived in Stanfield for many years where they raised cattle, and she worked as a general contractor for over 40 years. She had lived in Irrigon for the past several years. Helen enjoyed painting, camping, fishing and cherished time with her great grandson, Brenden. She was an avid Mariner and Seahawks fan. Helen was a lifelong member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Hall, Stanfield; brothers, Donny and Butch, both of Hermiston; sister, Josie, Battleground, Wash.; grandsons, Kelly and Brian; great grandson, Brenden; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; son, Michael; grandson, Kurtis; her parents; and nine siblings.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.
