Dale Dewey Passes Away at 76

Dale F. Dewey of Umatilla died on Nov. 28, 2018 in Hermiston at the age of 76.

He was born on Oct. 12, 1942 in Ontario to Franklin and O. Elizabeth Trumbull Dewey.

Dale was raised in Oregon and Washington. He served as a sergeant in the United States Army in Vietnam until his honorable discharge. Dale worked in construction, and on March 21, 1969 he was united in marriage to Margaret MacDonald in Richland, Wash. He earned his degree in welding from Green River Community College and went to work in the shipyards for Zidell Marine in Portland. He later worked building barges until he retired in 2001. They moved to Umatilla in 2007 where they have lived since.

Dale enjoyed reading, debating, economics, fishing, bird hunting, horses and trades of his craft.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Margaret Dewey, Umatilla; sons, Scott Dewey and his wife Roseann, Goldendale, Wash. and Mahlon Dewey, Louisville, Ky; daughters, Sara Bevington and her husband Ernie, Irrigon and Michelle Dewey, Hermiston; brother, Darle Dewey, Pahrump, Nev.; sisters, Glenda Gibbs, Kennewick, Wash. and Lynette Barnett, Auburn, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his son, Michael Dale Dewey; great grandson, Adam Dewey; his parents; a sister, Marilyn Dewey; and a brother, Lonnie “Bud” Trumbull.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018 at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 775 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston.

Burial with military honors will follow at the Hermiston Cemetery.
