Rose DeChand Passes Away at 86

Rose M. DeChand of Echo died on Nov. 28, 2018 in Hermiston at the age of 86.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1932 in Cheyenne, Wyo. to Rollie and Ethel Holaday Stickley.

Rose was raised in Parma, Idaho. She married James Sexton and they welcomed four sons, Robert, Ron, Tony and Billy before they divorced. Rose married Virgil DeChand on April 17, 1971 in Winnemucca, Nev. and they welcomed five sons, Bryan, Dale, Leon, David and Gary DeChand, along with five daughters, Cheryl, Jeanice, Lisa, Diane and Debbie.

Rose had lived in Umatilla County for the last 48 years and worked as a nurse’s aide. She volunteered at the Agape House and had attended the Cowboy Church. Rose enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, canning, collecting bells, trips to the Oregon coast and Wildhorse Resort & Casino, and chasing after her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons, Ronnie “Ron” Lee Sexton, Tony James Sexton, Bryan DeChand, Dale DeChand, Leon DeChand, David DeChand and Gary DeChand; daughters, Cheryl Wunder, Jeanice DeChand, Lisa DeChand and Diane Espinoza; sisters, Zeta Smith and Ada Sigman; 20 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.

Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Virgil DeChand; sons, Robert and Billy Sexton; daughter, Debbie DeChand; her parents; brothers, Dale and Bud Stickley; sisters, Iris DeChand, Carol Wiley, Anita Songbird and Lucille Stickley; and a grandson, Daniel DeChand.

A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 at 3 p.m. at the Hermiston Church of the Nazarene, 1520 W. Orchard Ave.
