Pedro Stepping Down as Hermiston Chamber CEO After 18 Years

The Greater Hermiston Chamber of Commerce announced today that Debbie Pedro has resigned her position as chief executive officer.

In a letter to chamber members, Pedro said she is stepping down to pursue “other opportunities professionally and personally.” Pedro said she would be sharing her plans with the public in the near future. A press release from the chamber said Pedro has taken another position in the area.

Pedro has been serving in her role at the chamber for 18 years.

“Debbie has been an invaluable, motivated leader for our organization and Hermiston,” said Paul Keeler, chairman of the chamber’s board.  “Her ability to advocate for business, build partnerships and drive the organization forward serves as a model for those who follow. While we are sorry to see her go, we are so very fortunate to have benefited from Debbie’s leadership, and we wish her every success in her new position. The chamber will continue in its mission to advance the region’s business interests and build upon the work that Debbie and her staff have provided. The chamber also has an exciting future ahead of it, with a new chamber business, visitor and welcome center building in development.”

Chamber officials say they credit Pedro for dramatically enhancing the financial stability of the chamber and bolstering communications strategies.

“It has been a privilege working shoulder to shoulder with so many dedicated professionals who care deeply about the vitality of Hermiston,” said Pedro. “I give much credit to my team, the chamber members and the professional leadership of our board of directors and partners I’ve had the honor of working with over the years, and I look forward to the chamber’s  continued progress.”

Pedro notified the board of her resignation in November, and will leave her post on Dec. 21. Keeler and Kelly Schwirse, marketing and communications manager, will oversee chamber operations until a new CEO is appointed.
