The Hermiston School District will add two modular buildings to a pair of school campuses to accommodate student growth across the district.

The modulars will be placed at Sunset Elementary School and Hermiston High School.

The modulars will arrive by Tuesday, April 2 and be set over spring break to avoid disruptions and traffic congestion at both sites. Both modulars will be installed next to the existing modular buildings at each site.

Though the elementary modular will be placed on the Sunset campus, where current facility and land is available to support the additional students, district officials said it will help the district accommodate an incoming kindergarten class expected to be over 450 students.

The high school modular building will aid the school in supporting an incoming freshman class of 440, as it graduates a senior class of less than 400 this spring. Total HHS enrollment currently exceeds 1600.

“The district continues to experience great student growth,” said Hermiston School Superintendent Tricia Mooney. “The addition of modular buildings will help to accommodate the growth; though, they are a temporary solution. A Long Range Facilities Planning Committee, composed of community members, administrators, and staff is revisiting the growth issue to determine viable options for recommendation to the school board.”
