The Hermiston Recreation Project Advisory Committee awarded $27,525 in grants to five local organizations.
The grants come from the Transient Room Tax or TRT fund and represent about 15 percent of 5/8ths of the Transient Room Tax collected in the prior year.
The Hermiston City Council approved the grant selections during Monday night’s meeting.
The grant recipients are:
- Hermiston Little League – $7,000 for restroom renovation
- The Hermiston Downtown District – $6,875 to purchase flower pots
- Hermiston Basketball Club – $5,000 to host a tournament
- Campus Life – $5,000 to purchase rafts
- Hermiston Youth Wrestling – $3,500 to put on a tournament
A sixth organization, Made to Thrive, was not among the five who received grant money from the Hermiston TRT fund, but was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation since its request met the foundation’s criteria.
The criteria for receiving a grant from the Hermiston TRT fund were:
- Projects must be within the city of Hermiston.
- Applicants must have a non-profit tax status.
- Projects that benefit Hermiston through enhanced tourism, promotion, marketing, and lodging will be given highest consideration.
- Projects that benefit the greatest number of participants will be given greater consideration.
- Projects that represent a broad base of other support shall be given greater consideration.
- Funded projects are required to submit a breakdown of expenditures on how the funds were spent including receipts prior to reimbursement.
