Robert Eugene Conklin of Stanfield passed away in Hermiston on Feb. 5, 2022 at the age of 72.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1950 in La Grande to Robert and Elaine Martindale Conklin.
Robert lived in Pendleton during his childhood, where he attended school. He graduated from Pendleton High School in the class of 1968. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He served as a boatsman’s mate aboard the USS Ajax. He served in the Navy for a total of four years and received the Purple Heart.
After his honorable discharge, Robert returned to Oregon and began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. He worked as a mail carrier and a clerk at the La Grande post office until retiring. He moved from La Grande to the Hermiston area in 2005, where he had lived until his death.
Robert enjoyed many activities, such as fishing, gold mining, hunting, golfing and woodworking.
He is survived by his two sons, Nate Conklin and Nick Conklin; two granddaughters, Addison and Alivia Conklin; and his two dogs, Jack and Jill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved dog, Keno.
