Betty Getchell Passes Away at 76
Betty Lou Getchell of Hermiston passed away on Feb. 25, 2022 surrounded by her family in Kennewick, Wash. at the age of 76.
She was born on July 28, 1945 in Hermiston to Edwin and Gladys Bry Bjerke.
Betty was raised and attended school in Hermiston, graduating from Hermiston High School in the class of 1963. She married Gerald Leon “Jerry” Getchell on Dec. 29, 1963 in Hermiston. They started their family and Betty was a stay-at-home mom for several years. She then owned and operated Eastern Oregon Credit Bureau for 10 years before retiring at the age of 38 due to health reasons.
Betty was a homemaker from then on and was committed to making it to her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities, no matter where they were. She enjoyed puzzles, camping and getting together with her sister and friends for an afternoon of playing dominos and sharing deliciously prepared snacks. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Getchell; sons, Brian Getchell (Chris), Brett Getchell (Bonnie) and Ed Getchell; daughter, Jeri Marie Gossett; grandchildren, Danielle Rambo (Aaron), Natasha Getchell (Dave), Mitch Boylan (Kayla), Hanna Findley, Darren Gossett, Justine Hively (Brandon), Michael Williams, Christopher Williams, Tyler Pagliarulo (Jenny), Cole Pagliarulo and Ryan Pagliarulo (Jessica); great grandchildren, Lilly, Kellen, Carter, Sarah, Luke, Everett and Paxton; brother, Ed Bjerke; sisters, Carrol McCarry and Gloria Stephens; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Wilkes, Marilyn Collison and Lois Francis; and a brother, Kenneth Bjerke.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery, with a celebration of life immediately following at New Hope Community Church, Hermiston.
