Dick Bondurant Passes Away at 86

Richard L. “Dick” Bondurant of Hermiston died on Sept. 26, 2022 in Hermiston at the age of 86.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1935 in Walla Walla, Wash. to Joseph and Frances Parrish Bondurant.

Dick was raised and attended school early on in Eltopia, Wash. before moving to Hermiston and graduating from Hermiston High School in the class of 1953. He then attended Eastern Oregon Community College in La Grande for one year.

Dick was united in marriage to Hazel M. Nelson on Dec. 30, 1956 in Hermiston. He was a contractor, working in construction for most of his working career. Hazel preceded him in death in 2010. Dick married Dianna Mesa on Nov. 21, 2015 in Hermiston. He was an active member of the Hermiston First Christian Church, serving as groundskeeper for several years, and was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Dick enjoyed walking, reading western novels, traveling, playing pinochle, camping and hunting. He volunteered for Habitat For Humanity, building the original Funland Park, and at the Agape House. Dick was an avid supporter of his children growing up, attending their sporting events and activities, and cherished time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna Bondurant, Hermiston; son, Cliff Bondurant and wife Kay, Vancouver, Wash.; daughters, Rose Neyman and husband Maurice, Portland and Tonya Rymer, Triangle, Va.; step sons, DN Mesa and wife Debra, Pendleton and Brian Mesa and wife Dusanka, Sioux Falls, S.D.; sisters, Kay Justice and husband Ray, St. Helens and Bonnie Marks and husband Don, Imnaha; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dick was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Bondurant; his parents; brothers, Dave, John and Tim Bondurant; and a sister, Inez Griffels.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, 2022 at 1 p.m. at the Hermiston Cemetery.

A reception will follow at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church fellowship hall, 775 W. Highland Ave., Hermiston.
